Theresa May is today visiting the North East of England and took part in a public Q&A session.
Commenting, Phil Wilson, MP for Sedgefield and leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Theresa May came to the North East today and offered the people here nothing to compensate for the deep damage that her plans for a hard Brexit will inevitably do to our economy.
“It took years to even partially recover from the devastation that the closure of coal, steel and shipbuilding brought to the North East.
“And now the Prime Minister wants to repeat the experience by threatening skilled and well-paid engineering and service jobs, particularly in the car industry.
“That would be a disaster and this time round it may be that no sustained recovery is possible. It is also why more and more people in the North East and across the UK are uniting behind the demand for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
