Ministers continue to brief against one another and against Downing Street as the Government’s proposals on Brexit continue to crumble.
Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“With just two and a half months until the deal with the EU is supposed to be agreed, the Government is still negotiating with itself.
“Liam Fox, who predicted this would be the ‘easiest trade agreement in human history’, is now predicting a ‘no deal Brexit’. Yet Downing Street says all the Government’s ‘no deal’ rhetoric is merely for show and the priority is to negotiate a ‘blind Brexit’ where we leave with nothing more than warmly-worded promises.
“In all this shambles, the things that matter to ordinary people are being completely forgotten. Jobs are at risk, futures are under threat. That’s before we even consider the threat to food, travel and medicines.
“Nobody voted for this mess or for endless chaos at the heart of Government. That is why all the momentum in this debate is now behind the demand for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal and for the public to take back democratic control from the squabbling politicians.”
