The chair of the Northern Ireland Affairs Select Committee, Conservative MP Dr Andrew Murrison, has expressed his frustration with the Government over its response to the committee’s recent report on Northern Ireland border questions.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Dr Murrison is reported as saying they “view this response as inadequate and request that the Northern Ireland Office look to provide further detail on our recommendations as soon as possible.”
Commenting, Gareth Thomas MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Two years into the Brexit process and it is plain the Government still do not have a clue about what to do about the Northern Ireland border.
“Increasingly – from dealing with Select Committees chaired by Conservative MPs, to negotiating with Conservative backbenchers over amendments – the Government are treating even their own supporters poorly.
“With Parliament and Government irreconcilably divided over Brexit and unable to deliver anything other than a bad deal or no deal – either of which would be bad news for the Irish Peace process – it is essential that there is a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
