Theresa May has announced an agreement for a post-Brexit roll-over of existing EU trade deals with 6 African countries.
Commenting, Gareth Thomas MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Two years ago, Brexiters were promising a new free-trade area ‘ten times’ the size of the EU. Now they’re reduced to celebrating an agreement to roll-over a fraction of the existing trade deals we already benefit from as EU members.
“The Brexit that was promised, including brand new free-trade deals with countries across the world, is not being delivered. Instead we’ve got Liam Fox desperately trying to pick up the pieces of the deals that Brexit threatens to tear up. And, in the meantime, we may not be able to benefit from new EU deals like the recent one with Japan. This is far from the ‘Global Britain’ promises of the Brexiters.
“Rather than allowing reckless politicians like Liam Fox to damage our global trading reputation, it’s time for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal so that the people of this country can decide whether or not the terms on offer are good enough.”
