Commenting on Donald Tusk’s letter to European heads of government, Jo Swinson MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“At the EU council tomorrow, the UK has the chance to step back from the cliff edge of a no deal Brexit and begin building a stable settlement for the whole county. A crisis that has developed over three years cannot be fixed in three days and now is not the time for more brinkmanship, threats or hasty panicked decision-making.
“Instead, we need to embrace Donald Tusk’s offer of a longer extension in which we can work out once and for all what Brexit would mean. MPs would then have the chance to decide whether to put a properly negotiated Brexit back to the people where, for the first time, the public would be able to choose between leaving on specific terms or sticking with the current deal inside the EU.
“There is a sensible majority in both Parliament and the country ready to support this as a new way forward which can prevent crisis turning into catastrophe.”
