The Prime Minister has told journalists travelling with her to the UN General Assembly that “I have always said no deal is better than a bad deal” and endorsed “no deal” as a better option than the EU’s current offer to the UK.
Commenting, Jo Swinson MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Just yesterday the Government published a further set of advice notes that showed what an appalling disaster a no deal Brexit would be for the UK. Planes could be stopped from flying; beef exports could be banned; and access to medicines would be restricted.
“Yet the Prime Minister continues to promote a no deal Brexit as a viable option for our country. Such outcomes might be acceptable to a Brexit elite in Westminster but would be a catastrophe for the country. Nobody voted for this mess.
“The way out of this shambles is a People’s Vote on any Brexit deal. Brexit is a big deal but it’s not a done deal and there is no way a no deal Brexit will be acceptable to the people of Britain.”
