The GMB union has said that the public should be given a final say over Brexit.
Commenting, Jo Stevens MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign and chair of the GMB’s Parliamentary Group, said:
“The vital job of the Labour Movement is to defend and protect the interests of working people and it is ever clearer that the botched Brexit we are heading for – whether it is Theresa May’s or Jacob Rees Mogg’s – is going to put jobs, rights and communities at risk.
“If Brexit damages our economy it will mean more cuts in cleaning in the NHS, more teaching assistants losing their jobs, and less investment in affordable, quality housing. A bad Brexit deal means lower wages, higher prices in the shops and more damage to the life chances and opportunities of generations for generations.
“Public services are already facing a deep crisis after eight years of deep and damaging austerity. Local government has borne the brunt of the attacks, but Brexit threatens to intensify the assault and that is why it is welcome when people speak out in support of a People’s Vote on the Brexit deal.”
