Responding to the Prime Minister’s speech at the CBI conference today, Anna Soubry MP, the former Business Minister and a leading supporter of the People's Vote campaign, said:
“The problem with the withdrawal agreement is not the Prime Minister or the negotiation so much as Brexit itself. Leave made promises which won’t be kept because they can’t be kept. The result is a deal that pleases no one and will mean years of uncertainty and lost investment for British business. The withdrawal agreement hands over £50 billion of taxpayers’ money in return for a much worse relationship than the one we already have. The UK will be left following all the rules set at EU level, but with no say over any of them.
“Business and investment are already taking a big hit from Brexit, and the situation will get much worse if we leave the EU. The next generation of who overwhelmingly voted to stay in the EU, are faced with much worse prospects as a direct result of Brexit. They will not forget or easily forgive this betrayal if they are denied a say on Brexit.
“This is a bad deal and not what anyone voted for in 2016. It is vital that the people of this country are given the final say, and a chance to compare Brexit reality to the benefits of our current EU membership through a People’s Vote.”
