Sir Vince Cable and Sarah Wollaston to headline People’s Vote rally for the South West

Details have been announced today of politicians, activists and South West campaigners who will speak at the rally for a People’s Vote in Bristol next Saturday (August 11)

Prominent Conservative Party MP for Totnes Sarah Wollaston - who this week became the latest high-profile politician to support the People’s Vote campaign - will join Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable on stage at the Colston Hall on August 11.

They are expected to tell a capacity crowd that Brexit is a bad deal which is being dumped on the doorsteps of people across the South West, but that people can take back control by demanding a People’s Vote on the final deal.

Also among the speakers announced today are Molly Scott Cato, Green Party MEP for the South West, NHS Doctor Lauren Gavaghan and Femi Oluwole – a young activist from Our Future Our Choice – a youth group campaigning for a People’s Vote.

The event will also hear from Sam Hickmott, a 20-year old gardener from Bristol who campaigns for a People’s Vote across the South West and Amanda Chetwynd-Cowieson, a People’s Vote campaigner from Newquay in Cornwall representing the organisation For Our Future’s Sake.

Sir Vince Cable, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, said:

“People in the South West – from the Isles of Scilly to Gloucester –will be hit hard by a bad Brexit deal. People’s jobs, security, the local economy and the produce which makes us so proud of the South West are all under threat from Brexit. The Government are making a mess out of Brexit – but it is not a done deal.

“I am delighted to come back to Bristol on August 11 to join the hundreds of people calling for a People’s Vote. Whether you voted leave or remain in the referendum, the Liberal Democrats believe it is your right to have the final say on the Brexit deal through a People’s Vote.”
