Commenting on the decision to recall Parliament for an emergency Saturday session for the first time since the Falklands conflict in 1982, Jess Phillips MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“The 19th of October was already set to be a historic day, with hundreds of thousands of people coming to London to demand that the final decision on Brexit is not made by Boris Johnson but by all of us.
“With the news that Boris Johnson is planning an emergency session of Parliament on the same day, there could not be a more important moment for everyone who cares about our country and our future to march, and to insist that we are all given the final say.
“Boris Johnson and his government have wasted time and effort on political diversions and manoeuvres and not on preparation. For Johnson and his rich backers, Brexit is nothing more than a game: it is not their jobs and mortgages at risk because they will always have more than enough to get by.
“We now have the opportunity to show Johnson and his hedge fund friends that we will not stand for it. On 19 October we – all of us – have a chance to make our demand for a People’s Vote heard loud and clear in Parliament.”
