People’s Vote smashes through £500,000 crowd-funding target ahead of huge march this Saturday

The People’s Vote campaign has smashed through its £500,000 crowd-funding target for the Together for the Final Say march taking place this Saturday (19 October). The march is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people to the streets of London demanding a People’s Vote, at the same time as MPs are due to meet in Parliament to debate Brexit in the first Saturday parliamentary session since the Falklands War.

The current crowd-funding total of £506,196.55 has come from 14,331 individual donors, with an average donation of £35.32.

The crowd-funder has been active for about two and a half months, since the start of the People’s Vote ‘Let Us Be Heard’ summer campaign, which saw a series of packed rallies held across the UK outside of London.

On Sunday, after the target was hit, the Director of Communications for the People’s Vote campaign, Tom Baldwin, sent an e-mail to all donors thanking them for their support:

Today we hit the £500,000 target we had set ourselves to pay for the Together for the Final Say march on Saturday.

You are one of the people who have generously donated to our campaign.

We don’t express our gratitude enough - but we really do feel it - because the People’s Vote campaign simply would not exist without supporters like you.

In the past few months, all our events have been funded by individual online donations.

Indeed, contrary to what you read in the media, we’re not dependent on wealthy benefactors or high value fundraising networks.

The ENTIRE cost of all the Let Us Be Heard rallies over the summer and the big march on Saturday will be paid for by online crowd-funding.

It means that the People’s Vote is powered by people like you.

See you at Park Lane on Saturday at noon.

Let’s march on Parliament. One more time. Together for the Final Say.

Thanks again - and best wishes,

Tom Baldwin,

Director of Communications,

People’s Vote campaign

James McGrory, Executive Director of the People’s Vote campaign, said:

“The People’s Vote campaign wouldn’t be where it is today without the incredibly generous donations we receive from our supporters all across the UK. People give whatever they can to the campaign because they believe as strongly as we do that the public must have the final say on Brexit.

“Smashing through our £500,000 crowd-funding target is an amazing achievement, and will help us organise one of the biggest marches in British history this Saturday, 19th October, when hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life will march on Parliament to demand a People’s Vote.

“With Brexit reaching a critical stage, and with the terms on offer so different to what was promised, it’s time for a People’s Vote to solve this crisis once and for all. It’s time to march together for the final say.”
