The Prime Minister has today submitted a written statement confirming a downgrade in responsibilities for the Brexit Department. From now on, the Prime Minister will be taking on the responsibility of negotiating Brexit with the EU, with the new Brexit Secretary, Dominic Raab, “deputising”.
Commenting, Ian Murray MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“We now have a Secretary of State for International Trade who’s not allowed to negotiate international trade deals, and a Secretary of State for Exiting the EU who isn’t responsible for negotiating our exit from the EU. Brexit is becoming a job-creation scheme for pointless Government positions.
“With the Prime Minister now taking over full responsibility for the Brexit negotiations, we’re left hoping she does a better job negotiating a deal with the EU than she’s proved at negotiating a deal with her own Party. The whole thing is a complete and utter shambles.
“It’s not good enough for a Prime Minister who can’t even command a parliamentary majority to unilaterally negotiate a deal with the EU, without allowing the people of this country to have their say. That’s why we need a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
