Both Amber Rudd and Diane Abbott have used media interviews in the last day to indicate that they think a People’s Vote on the Brexit deal could be the only way forward out of Parliamentary gridlock.
Commenting, Anna McMorrin MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Leading politicians from the Cabinet and the Shadow Cabinet are beginning to admit that a People’s Vote is the only way forward. This is not necessarily because they want it but because there is a growing awareness in Westminster and across the whole of the U.K. that no Brexit plan can meet all the promises made in the last referendum - or be anything like as good as the deal we’ve already got in the EU. The demand from people to have the final say so they can break the deadlock is getting louder. And politicians will have to listen.
“There is no kind of fantasy Brexit deal that can meet all the promises made. The real choice now is whether to go ahead with a Brexit deal or stick with the deal we already have as members of the EU. Now we know what Brexit looks like, the public should be given the opportunity to decide in a People’s Vote – is this the kind of deal we want, or is the deal we already have in the EU better? In the end, only the people can sort this out.”
