McFadden – Why would Labour MPs believe Johnson has had a Damascene conversion on workers’ rights?

Commenting on the appearance of Brexit Secretary, Stephen Barclay, before the Commons Brexit Committee, Pat McFadden MP, leading supporter of a People’s Vote, said:

“Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay confirmed this morning that the Government would not abide by the level playing field provisions on workers’ rights and other areas which are currently part of the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration.

“Mr Barclay claimed the Government had no intention of diminishing these rights, but replacing binding written commitments with a plea to trust Boris Johnson’s future intentions looks like a poor deal for Labour MPs, particularly when Boris Johnson has built his journalistic career attacking EU guaranteed rights and standards as needless Brussels red tape.

“Why would we suddenly believe he’s had a Damascene conversion and is now a fan of things he has spent his whole life attacking?”
