Jeremy Corbyn this morning made a speech to the EEF where he talked of the “benefit” Brexit would bring to the British economy.
Commenting, Caroline Lucas MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“More than two years on from the referendum, during which time the pound has collapsed, our economy has slumped and the disastrous reality of Brexit for jobs and investment has become ever-more apparent, it appears there are still some in the Labour Party who believe there can be a ‘jobs-first Brexit’.
“It is time Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party stopped peddling myths about EU membership and told the truth about the threat Brexit poses to working people and their communities. He must put an end to the triangulation strategy of pretending there is some sort of good Brexit on offer.
“Jeremy Corbyn’s suggestion that devaluation should be a boon for the economy ignores the reality that it has increased the cost of living for working people – dramatically forcing up the price of food, fuel and even family holidays.
“Around 80% of the membership of the Labour Party want a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal. Jeremy Corbyn must now listen to them and commit Labour to giving a proper say over Brexit to the many, rather than just the few.”
