Commenting on the Prime Minister’s remarks at the G20 in Argentina, Caroline Lucas MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Theresa May and her ministers are now playing a political game, not acting in the national interest.
“She and her ministers will say or do anything to get this miserable deal through.
“They are talking up the prospect and scale of the deal’s defeat in Parliament in the hope of discouraging MPs from voting against it. They are talking up their fantasy of a short-term market crash in an effort to scare MPs. But this is just the start.
“If this deal goes through it will be just the start of years of endless rows, negotiations and renegotiations as MPs and ministers squabble about the mess we will have been left in by this blindfold Brexit.
“However people voted in 2016, nobody voted for this. That is why we demand a People’s Vote and the chance to stay as full members of the EU with all our rights.”
