Speaking to the BBC in Singapore, International Trade Secretary Liam Fox has declined to repeat his prediction that a ‘no deal’ Brexit was a 60:40 likelihood but did say if it happened it would solely be the fault of the EU.
Commenting, Chris Leslie MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Liam Fox’s latest line on the prospect of a disastrous no deal Brexit seems to be ’it wasn’t me’.
“His remarks illustrate the complete failure of the Brextremists now driving UK policy to take responsibility for their actions. They promised us £350 million a week for the NHS and said Brexit would be free and easy. They abandoned that promise as quickly as they possibly could while landing us with a £50 billion divorce bill.
“There is a way out of this mess, and that is to put the Brexit deal to a People’s Vote. Good deal or bad deal, Brexit is a big deal – too big to be left in the hands of a Westminster elite who refuse to behave like adults when the going gets tough.”
