This morning’s GDP and trade figures showed anaemic growth and a rapidly widening trade deficit.
Commenting, Chris Leslie MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Beyond the headlines, these figures show an economy being weighed down ever more heavily by the negative impact of Brexit.
“Manufacturing is now in recession, agricultural output is stalled, automotive and aviation exports have crashed while imports are soaring.
“The threat of a ‘blind Brexit’ or a disastrous ‘no deal Brexit’ are rising, meaning we are heading for a huge Brexit crunch, with jobs and family prosperity at serious risk.
“Whether people backed leave or remain, nobody voted for this mess. That is why the momentum behind the demand for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal is building. Brexit is a big deal – threatening jobs and the future – but there is no way it is a done deal.”
