Commenting on the current state of play in the Brexit process, David Lammy MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“This morning, with just 18 days to go until Brexit Day, the country is approaching crisis point. The negotiations with Brussels are in a state of gridlock, and even the Prime Minister - who just weeks ago was describing her deal as the best one available - is struggling to justify why MPs should vote for it. As the clock ticks down, the stark reality is that there is no majority in Parliament for her deal, or for any form of Brexit.
“For businesses, jobs and the economy, the sort of brinksmanship we are seeing is devastating. For ministers in Westminster this might just be part of a political game, but it has very real consequences for people's jobs and communities. This is not what anyone voted for in 2016.
“Now that we know so much more about the real-world cost of Brexit, now that we know how many promises made in 2016 have been broken, and now we know that voting through the Brexit deal would mean an endless continuation of this crisis, it must be put to the people for the final say. That's why huge numbers will be marching on Parliament on March 23, calling for Brexit to be put to the people.”
