Government papers submitted during a court hearing have revealed that Boris Johnson has admitted he will have to write a letter asking the EU for an Article 50 extension if no deal is agreed by October 19th.
Commenting, David Lammy MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“No-one can trust the Prime Minister.
“For months he has been insisting he will not seek any extension of our EU membership, that we’ll be out on October 31st, deal or no deal, ‘do or die’. But now his lawyers admit he will ask the EU for an extension if he hasn’t agreed a deal by October 19th.
“He needs to clarify his position immediately.
“With a Prime Minister this duplicitous and untrustworthy, it’s simply not credible to let him be the one to have the final say on an issue as important to the future of our country as Brexit.
“That’s why huge numbers will be marching through London on October 19th, demanding to be heard and calling for a People’s Vote.”
