The European Commission is to warn EU member states that they need to step up preparations for a ‘no deal’ Brexit.
Commenting, Peter Kyle MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“A no deal Brexit would be an economic, social and security disaster for the United Kingdom.
“It would quite literally cut us off from our biggest trading partner, jamming our sea ports and closing our airports, threatening the stability of power supplies, damaging food distribution and dealing a devastating blow to any manufacturer or service provider who trades across borders.
“The only people it would be good news for are those who seek to undermine the peace process in Northern Ireland, and the criminals whose details are held on the European databases our police and security services would no longer be able to access.
“No deal is on the table because Westminster is gridlocked and Parliament can agree nothing on Brexit. The Prime Minister and her Government stagger from day to day, appearing to agree policies one day only to tear them up on the orders of Jacob Rees-Mogg the next.
“There is only one way out of this mess and that is to return power and responsibility to the public. We must take this out of the Westminster hothouse and have a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
