Responding to Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell’s interview on the Andrew Marr Show, Kate Green MP, a leading supporter of People’s Vote, said:
“It is welcome that John McDonnell has today confirmed that Labour’s proposals need to be brought forward by the end of this month and that if they can’t be agreed in Parliament then the party will have no alternative but to follow its conference policy and start campaigning for a People’s Vote.
“It’s also encouraging that he also confirmed that the party leadership is willing to look at new compromise proposals to avoid the threat of a no deal Brexit by approving a deal - but only subject to it being put to the public.
“The truth is that more and more people in Labour and across the country know there isn’t any deal as good as one we already have inside the EU, that meets the promises made in 2016 or will prevent this crisis carrying on forever as successive governments go back and forth to Brussels trying to make sense of something that makes no sense for the UK. That is why thousands of Labour supporters, together with others from all parties and of none, have already signed up for our Put It To The People March in London on March 23. They know the only way forward is to give the public a final say through a People’s Vote.”
