Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay has played down reports that EU Chief Negotiator Olly Robbins admitted that a delay to Article 50 was likely.
Responding, Guto Bebb MP, a leading supporter of People’s Vote, said:
“The Prime Minister is playing a high stakes game of running down the clock and blackmailing MPs with the threat of a disastrous no deal Brexit in order to force them to back her deal at the eleventh-hour. The fact her own chief negotiator believes the country is in no way prepared for no deal simply underlines how reckless this approach is.
“The Government knows it will never be able to sell the deal to MPs without making these kind of threats because the deal does not deliver on the promises made for Brexit, is worse than the deal we currently have in the EU, and offers no clarity or closure but simply guarantees Brexit will go on forever.
“Now more than ever it is clear that the only way forward is to give the people a final say with a public vote.”
