Commenting on Boris Johnson’s refusal to even consider a revised backstop, and on his continued refusal to rule out suspending Parliament, Rt. Hon. Dominic Grieve QC MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
"By the end of next week there will be more Conservatives who have indicated very clearly that No Deal is unacceptable, and I notice that many of them will no longer be on the front bench.
"So, if the new government persists in trying to carry out No Deal, I think that administration is going to fall.
"Threatening to prorogue Parliament is astonishing. It’s unconstitutional, it’s undemocratic and it would in fact be the end of our parliamentary democracy as we know it.
"At the same time, a general election in alliance with Nigel Farage's Brexit Party would be the end of the Conservative Party as we know it.
"Instead, Conservatives should be seeking to build a stable majority in Parliament to settle the Brexit crisis and ensuring – whether we eventually leave the EU or stay – that the deadlock in Parliament is broken and that any outcome is a legitimate one. That can only be achieved through a People's Vote."
The People’s Vote campaign today published a new report on the six Brexit dead ends, the cliff-edge of No Deal and one way out through a People’s Vote, more details can be read here: https://www.peoples-vote.uk/new_report_-_a_people_s_vote_is_the_only_viable_and_democratic_route_to_end_the_brexit_crisis
