Commenting on market reaction to Michel Barnier’s remarks in Berlin today, Stephen Doughty MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“It can be no surprise that people are desperate for news that suggests that the UK will get a deal that lessens the damage to trade, to public services and to the freedom to live, love and work across the EU.
“It should not obscure the fact that Michel Barnier today has essentially said nothing new and that the UK is still staring down a double-barrelled Brexit gun – with no deal in one chamber and a hard Brexit in the other.
“Nobody voted for a bad deal and that is why the demand for a People’s Vote on the outcome of the Brexit negotiations is growing all the time. Brexit is a big deal, but it is not a done deal.”
