Donald Tusk, the President of the European Council, today confirmed that the EU was prepared for a ‘no-Brexit scenario’. The comment follows Theresa May last night stating that if the deal gets voted down there might be ‘no Brexit’.
Donald Tusk was reported as saying: “The EU is prepared for a final deal with the United Kingdom in November. We are also prepared for a no-deal scenario but of course we are best prepared for a no-Brexit scenario.”
In response, Lord Kerr, the former Permanent Representative to the EU and author of Article 50, and a leading supporter of People’s Vote, said:
“The President of the European Council confirms that we don't have to buy this humiliating deal, or crash out: we'd be welcome to stay. Brexit is bad for everyone, but much worse for us.
“The real choice now is between a deal that nobody likes and the one we already have.”
