Boris Johnson has resigned as Foreign Secretary.
Commenting, Stella Creasy MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“The Brexit mess and chaos is worsening by the hour. Nobody voted for this shambles.
“But what matters is not the career moves of a few men in Westminster, but the threat a botched Brexit poses to thousands of British jobs and millions of British people.
“Theresa May’s Chequers Car Crash will satisfy nobody. Ministers are unable to back it, it will leave us paying into the EU until 2064 but having no say on the rules that will still govern business and instead of taking back control will leave the UK only with what David Davis calls ‘illusory’ sovereignty. This would be a hard Brexit proposal for the overwhelming bulk of our economy that will damage generations of British people for generations to come.
“Only a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal can get us out of this mess. Whether people voted Leave or Remain they did not vote for this. Brexit is a big deal but, now more than ever, we can see it is not a done deal.”
