William Hague today told the Royal United Services Institute that ‘Britain’s departure from the EU and the agreement which we obtain could end up with major allies making each other’s security more expensive. These developments are taking place just when alliances need updating.’
Commenting, Tom Brake MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“There is no Brexit dividend and, as William Hague admits, if Brexit happens it is likely to weaken our defences and cost us more.
“No wonder Vladimir Putin and his proxies in Britain are so keen on Brexit. They want to undermine our values and our armed forces and Brexit gives them both.
“With Brexit inflicting severe damage on our economy and the negotiations in chaos, yesterday the Chancellor told the Cabinet that there is simply no money left to fund additional defence spending.
“Nobody voted to weaken our defences and as we learn more about the risks and costs of Brexit the demand for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal will keep growing.”
