Greg Hands today resigned as International Trade Minister over the Government’s decision to support expansion of Heathrow.
Commenting, Ben Bradshaw MP, former Foreign Office minister and leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Greg Hands has been chucked on the bonfire over Heathrow while Boris Johnson is being allowed to slip off on an overseas trip so he gets to avoid having to vote.
“Once again the Foreign Secretary is allowed to get away with political disloyalty and bad behaviour.
“What does he have to do to get the sack? He briefs against the Prime Minister at every opportunity, says Donald Trump would negotiate a better Brexit deal than she is, and openly courts the support of backbench Brextremists in their plots against her.
“The truth is, the Prime Minister dare not sack him or even force him to vote for her policies because she is so weak and her government so lacking in direction.
“Such a weak Government cannot be allowed to decide the country’s fate. That is why we need a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.”
