The Prime Minister has made a statement to the Commons this afternoon about progress on the Brexit negotiations.
Commenting, Luciana Berger MP, leading supporter of a People’s Vote, said:
“The reality is that the Prime Minister had nothing new to offer to the House of Commons and no substantial progress to report.
“The negotiations remain a mess and it is crystal clear that ‘deal’ or ‘no deal’ we are headed for a miserable departure from the EU that will be a million miles from the promises that were made to the people of Britain in 2016.
“But the problem with Brexit is not the Prime Minister, the problem with the Prime Minister is Brexit and the way a series of promises have been made that cannot be reconciled. The consequence will be further damage to our economy, our public services and the future of young people.
“The public is becoming increasingly weary with the mess of Brexit and the prospect that, under the Government’s latest proposals, negotiations will drag on for many years to come while we pay billions into the EU for an indefinite period with no say on how it is spent and no voice on the laws that will be decided.
“On Saturday, 700,000 people were on the streets of London on demanding a People’s Vote. They know that the Brexit elite cannot solve this crisis – only the people can.”
