Commenting on Boris Johnson’s threat to ‘pull’ his Brexit Bill if he loses the vote on timetabling tonight, Luciana Berger MP, leading supporter of a People’s Vote, said:
“Boris Johnson cannot help himself but attempt to bully Parliament. He says that if MPs reject his attempts to railroad the Commons, he will call a General Election.
“But he has no power to do so. It is for Parliament alone to decide if and when an election is called, and MPs can and should instead give the final say on Brexit back to the British people in a People’s Vote.
“Democracy is not served by allowing a bullying and arrogant Prime Minister to ram through everything he wants. It shouldn’t need to be said but Boris Johnson should ensure there is proper consideration of all new laws and he should recognise sovereignty rests with the people and not with him and his hard-right allies.”
