Michael Gove will today claim at the Oxford Farming Conference that the Government’s plan for Brexit will provide the rural economy with certainty about the future.
Commenting, Guto Bebb MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Far from giving farmers any certainty for the future, the Government’s plan for Brexit leaves all the big questions unanswered and successive governments will end up trying to make sense of a deal that makes no sense for Britain.
“It just means the debate about our relationship with the EU will go on forever. There is no kind of fantasy Brexit deal that can meet all the promises made to farmers or the rural economy.
“The real choice now is whether to go ahead with a Brexit deal or stick with the deal we already have as members of the EU. Now we know what Brexit looks like, the public should be given the opportunity to decide in a People’s Vote – is this the kind of deal we want, or is the deal we already have in the EU better? In the end, only the people can sort this out.”
