Commenting on the state of the Conservative leadership election, Guto Bebb MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“For the future of the country as well as for the future of the Conservative Party it is essential that the current leadership contest does not just focus on the views and interests of the 0.25% of the population who are members of the Conservative Party but on what is in the national interest.
“There is now accelerating descent towards a destructive No Deal.
“If a Conservative leader seriously tried to carry out such a policy, they would face almost certain humiliation in Parliament, deepen the sense of crisis and paralysis in the country and widen the divisions inside our party.
“Enough Conservative MPs will put country ahead of party to stop No Deal. When that happens we may end up facing an election which no serious Conservative wants.
“That is why the sensible, pragmatic, democratic Conservative solution to this is to trust the people and call a final say referendum on Brexit.”
