Commenting on Boris Johnson’s appointment as Prime Minister, Guto Bebb, Conservative MP and supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Boris Johnson can offer no credible promises on anything with the Brexit crisis unresolved. And on Brexit he offered nothing new at all.
“Merely stating that Brexit will happen by a given date does not make it happen. Theresa May learnt that lesson the hard way and Boris Johnson will learn it too.
“Claiming that there will be no checks on the Northern Ireland border and that there will be no backstop, does not make either thing true. To pretend otherwise is to take people for fools.
“Boris Johnson was elected to lead the Conservative Party by just 0.14% of the population and has no democratic mandate to press ahead with any plans for an extreme Brexit or a No Deal crash out.
“He has no right to impose any extreme Brexit or No Deal on the British people. In our democracy, the people must make our voices heard louder than ever before and tell the new Prime Minister that we will resist his attempts to impose his plans on us without our consent.
“The demand from the people for a final say on Brexit must and will grow ever louder. A People’s Vote is not just another option in the Brexit crisis, it is the only solution that offers clarity and closure.”
