Speculation about what sort of deal the Prime Minister might secure in Brussels and whether it would be acceptable to Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab, other members of the Cabinet and Jacob Rees-Mogg’s European Research Group continues to grow.
Commenting, Anna Soubry MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“Day after day we see briefing and counter-briefing on what might be in any interim EU divorce deal the Government gets and on why the Cabinet, the Hard Brexiters or others will not vote for it.
“One thing we can be certain of: it will not be the trade deal we were promised that would settle our final relationship with the EU. Those talks have barely begun. We face a blindfold Brexit with chaos and confusion for business and years of argument about that final deal.
“British business needs certainty to invest in all our futures and secure prosperity and jobs.
“It doesn’t have to be like this.
“There is an alternative to this mess and damage to our economy and national reputation, and that is to hold a People’s Vote which gives the British voters a choice between a blindfold Brexit and staying in the EU on our existing terms.
“When we buy a home we can change our minds if we do not like the look of the survey. So too with Brexit – the people asked the Prime Minister to seek out a deal, but we are under no obligation to accept it if we think it is not in the national interest.”
