The Government are claiming Parliament will only have a choice between whatever bad deal they bring back from Brussels and no deal.
Commenting, Chris Leslie MP, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“The Government are trying to rig Parliamentary protocol because as things stand - which they admit in their own paper - the Commons can amend the motion and put conditions on ratification and that must surely include a People's Vote.
“As momentum builds for giving the public a final say, no wonder Ministers will try to stymie any amendments to their motion on whatever miserable deal they might eventually bring back from Brussels.
“Ministers can huff and puff about claiming it will be a choice between their bad deal and no deal, but the House of Commons has the power to hand this decision back to the people and shouldn’t be bullied by Ministerial ultimatums.
“The best answer to this attempt by the Government to close down democracy is for people from all over the UK, and from all walks of life, to join the People's March for the Future this Saturday and demand their democratic right to a People's Vote."
